High-speed, low-latency broadband from LEO
Satellite Internet in South Korea
Asia-Pacific · Population: 52M · Internet penetration: 98%
Market Overview
South Korea has the world's fastest average internet speeds and nearly universal broadband coverage. Satellite internet demand is niche - primarily for maritime, aviation, and military applications. However, Starlink is available for the small number of rural locations and islands that lack fiber connectivity.
Regulatory Environment
KCC regulates telecommunications. South Korea has its own satellite programs (Arirang, KOMPSAT) focused on Earth observation. Starlink received provisional licensing. South Korea's own 6G satellite plans are under development.
Rural Coverage Gap
Virtually all South Korean households have access to gigabit broadband. Satellite internet is relevant only for remote islands, maritime use, and as a backup for critical infrastructure. Coverage gaps are minimal.
