About OneWeb (Eutelsat)

"Deliver connectivity for governments, businesses, and communities everywhere through a responsible, multi-orbit satellite network."

OneWeb was founded in 2012 by Greg Wyler, a serial satellite entrepreneur, with the vision of connecting the unconnected. The company launched its first six satellites in February 2019 and began rapidly deploying its constellation. Then came a dramatic near-death experience: in March 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, OneWeb filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy after its primary investor SoftBank pulled funding.

A consortium led by the UK government and India's Bharti Global acquired OneWeb in July 2020, injecting $1 billion to resume operations. By March 2023, OneWeb completed its full 648-satellite constellation - making it the first LEO broadband constellation to reach full planned deployment. Launches were disrupted in February 2022 when Russia's invasion of Ukraine halted Roscosmos cooperation, forcing OneWeb to switch to Indian and SpaceX rockets.

In September 2023, OneWeb merged with French satellite operator Eutelsat, creating Eutelsat Group - a combined LEO and GEO fleet offering multi-orbit connectivity. In January 2026, the group ordered 340 next-generation 5G-integrated satellites from Airbus. Currently serving enterprise, government, maritime, and aviation customers, the company has not yet launched a direct consumer offering.
